Toasts and Toasters have been in use since generations. The only difference is the preparation method. Earlier, they were prepared using an iron plate that was placed on the fire to be heated and toasted. Today we are using the electrical versions. The change has been long, variations have occurred in the method, but the purpose and the core process is almost the same.

As these Toasters have been modified and today are up and running using electricity it becomes even more essential to maintain them properly. Electricity is very much essential and advantageous to us but if not handled properly they can turn out to be the worst enemy turning everything upside down in a matter of seconds.

Hence, it becomes necessary to know the ways and means to keep our Toasters neat and clean so that we can avoid any mishaps and along with that we can also increase the life of the Toasters. If we become even a little careless, situations may turn up in such a way that parts of these Toasters would require replacement or even worse these would become useless as they would not function properly.

The first thing that should be kept in mind while handling Toasters is the safety aspect. As most of them are electric Toasters while we are using them we should ensure that the electric point where we are using them should be in good condition, the flow of electricity is stable and there is no fluctuation.

Do not open the Toasters when they are in use. Always unplug or switch off the point before opening. This would ensure that there is no short supply of electricity leading to the flow of current into the body of the toaster.

Keep them neat and clean. For this, make it a point to clean them up on a regular basis, say once in a month. While doing so, you should strictly not leave them plugged on to the electric point. Remove it from the socket and then begin your cleaning drive. But, again before that, you should ensure that it is not hot. If so, leave it to cool for sometime.

Then spread out a piece of newspaper and place the toaster on it. Then remove the crumb tray and clean it. Now, take the toaster and put it upside down and shake it well. Any crumbs that would have spilled away from the tray can thus be easily removed. But there may be some crumbs that would have got stuck in the corners and do not come out even after shaking. For this, you can use an old toothbrush to scrap the area gently. This would remove those crumbs without causing any damage to the body of the toaster. Alternately you can use a dry pastry brush.

A word of caution is that you should not put in any kind of liquids (water, cleaning liquids, detergents etc) inside the toaster. Keeping the Toasters clean will help in quick heating and saving energy.
